By his third solo album Michael Jackson was fifteen, and the Motown machine was starting to slow around him. Music & Me is a quieter, less commercially driven record than its predecessors, arriving with little of the fanfare that met his earlier hits. The songs lean toward gentle ballads and modest arrangements, and the album produced no blockbuster single to anchor it. Yet there is charm in its calm.
